puanga celebration 2017

Today Carlton school was open at 6:00 for puanga then we went to the hall and and had some breakfast then we planted five plants and waited for the 8:30 bell. Then at 9:15 we went to the beach and came back 11:30.At the beach we were in our houses I was in totara .At the beach we made sand sculptures and drift wood sculptress totora we were in groups and I was in a group with Evie. Evie and I made a pummis waka out of drift wood and pummis and we used Evie's jersey and hat for a flag in our pummis waka. The waves at the beach sounded like gun shots. .Then we had two adults judging the sculptress and sand creations for the sculptress totara came third and puriri came thirst and in the sand creations totara came thirst.We came back to school and had morning tea.

Why we need food


Why does our bodies need food?School lunches are balanced so students constraint more.Our bodies don't need high sugar food they need healthy food.These are good carbohydrates such as brown rice,kumara,whole grain pasta,There are bad carbohydrates such as potatoes chippies mustard.


 Sugar is something which is really bad for you,If you buy a package and it says sugar free it's a code for 100% fat.In carlton school lunches sugar is found in biscuits,cakes,slices or chips,muesli bars,low fat yogurt and fruit.If you eat too much sugar you can gain weight or get tooth decay and you can get anxiety,diabetes.If you keep on eating sugar you just want more and more.Sugar is found in 80% of food we eat.


Protein burns fat slowly as well as itself. In school lunches protein provides meat in sandwiches dairy products and milk.Protein helps student concentration more.It affects their growth.It also helps their muscles move in there body.


What I think of healthy school lunches is that they don't take any sugar foods to school.The healthiness in school lunches is by getting protein in students bodies.Healthy school lunches are balanced by carbohydrates and that makes the students more active In the playground.


Now we know why we need food.Healthy food makes our bodies active.Sugary food makes us gain weight and have tooth decay.Protein helps us concentrate more.So school lunches should be balanced.

sea turtles

Sea turtles have been around ever since the early Jurassic times. If you want to know the sea turtles life cycle then I suggest you keep on reading this. It all starts with there mum and dad as you can see this picture it shows you how their life cycle works but does it tell you how? So i'm here to tell you about them we will start of with what happens to the eggs. Well the egg’s are a size of a ping pong ball and there is over 1000 eggs, They all get buried in the sand by its mother then their mother shuffles away in the water. It takes 45-55 days for them to hatch. 800 eggs hatch out of 1000 400 make there way out of the buried sand 200 make it to the water without getting eaten 20 make it through to being an adult. When the baby sea turtles hatch they are the size of the palm of your hand. If you are wondering what they eat well i'm about to tell you they eat kowp. So when the baby sea turtles grow up a little bit they are called juveniles and when they are a teenager they are called sub-adults and when they get older they are called adults, Then they can go out on the sand and breath fresh air. When they are an adult they are the size of a medium table compared to the palm of your hand. Sea turtles don't eat much because they are really low on the food chain.
